Box Score 4 Davis & Elkins College Senators Baseball competed over spring break, traveling to South Carolina to take on Francis Marion and Newberry, and finishing the break with a four-game series at Shepherd.
FLORENCE, S.C. -
The Senators opened up the series and struggled in game 1 against Newberry, falling 26-1.
D&E fell 9-2 in the second game.
Brent McMillion pitched well in his five innings on the mound. McMillion surrendered only two hits and one run, striking out four.
Chase DeGrood went 2-3 at the plate, hitting his second home run of the year to start a torrid week at the dish.Â
Greyson Caldwell went 2-4 with an RBI, and
Ryan Savitt hit a triple and scored.
In the game against Francis Marion, despite a 19-0 loss,
Justin Worley threw three scoreless innings in relief, striking out four and allowing just one hit.
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va -
In Game 1 against Shepherd, the Senators fell 5-2, but
Anthony Laney hit his first career home run to plate both runs.
Chase DeGrood added three hits.
Kade Kozak pitched a solid three innings in relief, allowing just one run.
In the second game, Shepherd won 7-0.
Christian Ortega hit a double.
In Game 3, Shepherd held off the Senators in a 7-3 final.
Corey Mays went 1-3 with an RBI, his first of the season.
Ryan Savitt plated the other two runs for D&E, and
Anthony Laney scored and hit a double.
To close out the weekend,
Troy McMillion had two hits, and
Chase DeGrood finished off a solid week going 2-3 with both RBIs in a 10-2 loss.
DeGrood currently leads the team in hitting, batting .378 on the season after his solid week.
The Senators will travel to Athens, W.Va to take on Concord tomorrow, the game is set for a 2 PM start.
