Baseball Drops Two to Yellowjackets to Conclude Series

ELKINS, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins College baseball dropped both games of a Mountain East Conference doubleheader to West Virginia State on Monday at Harpertown Field, falling 2-1 and 16-5.

In the opener, the Senators (6-37, 5-21 MEC) battled through a tight pitchers' duel but came up just short. Kyle Ball delivered a strong start, scattering six hits and allowing just two runs over seven innings while striking out three. D&E's lone run came in the seventh inning when Kelvin Probst led off with a double and later scored on a groundout by Jett Walters. Probst finished 2-for-3 with a double, while Larry Kusan and Zach Calef-Boring also added extra-base hits.

In Game 2, West Virginia State broke open a close game with five runs in the fourth inning and six more in the seventh to secure a 16-5 win. Joseph De La Nuez led the Senators offensively, going 2-for-4 with a run scored. Calef-Boring and Noah Hanna each drove in runs during a three-run sixth inning that briefly cut the deficit to 10-5. D&E pitchers combined to allow 14 hits and eight walks in the loss.

The Senators travel to Bluefield State on Tuesday, April 29 for a non-conference doubleheader. The final home series and regular season finale will be against West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday, May 2, with a doubleheader at Harpertown Field.
