GLENVILLE, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins College dropped all four games of a Mountain East Conference baseball series to Glenville State this weekend at the Sue Morris Sports Complex, falling to 6-32 on the season.
In the series opener on Thursday, Joseph De la Nuez provided the highlight with a three-run home run to left center in the third inning, his first of the season. The blast gave the Senators an early lead, but Glenville State responded with a flurry of offense en route to a 12-3 victory. Diego Reyes pitched five innings in the start, while Ethan Marshall tossed two scoreless innings in relief.
Game two saw Jett Walters connect for his first home run of the year — a solo shot in the third — but Davis & Elkins couldn't muster additional offense in a 7-1 setback. Walters, Mason Brenneman, Reyes, Larry Kusan, and Noah Hanna each collected a hit. Isaac Lane took the loss on the mound.
On Saturday, the Senators scored first in game three with an RBI single from Cort Kegley to plate Zach Calef-Boring in the second inning. Brenneman added a double, but Glenville State answered with ten runs over the next five innings to secure a 10-1 win. Ethan Marshall allowed six earned runs over 4.1 innings in the loss.
In the series finale, Kegley again delivered at the plate, driving in both D&E runs with a two-out, bases-loaded single in the fourth. Calef-Boring and pinch runner Malakai Webb scored on the play, while Hanna contributed a double and walk. Reyes took the loss in a game shortened to seven innings by run rule, as the Pioneers pulled away for a 12-2 win.
