The Davis and Elkins College Baseball team dropped their season opening series to Winston-Salem State University 5-0, 10-1, 18-1, and 9-2.
The first game of the weekend started slow, with no runs were scored in the first three innings. Brent McMillion tossed 3 1/3 inning with six strikeouts.
The Senators had a couple of hits but stranded runners on base, while the Rams converted a three-run fourth inning, eventually closing the first contest at 5-0.
Hank Shultz pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief, helping with four strikeouts for the Senators.
In Game 2, The Rams scored two runs in the bottom of the first, two in the second, and one in the third.
In the top of the fourth, the Senators finally scored their first run when Anthony Lane singled, scoring Shawn Pass, cutting the difference to 5-1.
The final score was 10-1 for Winston-Salem State.
On Saturday in games 3 and 4, the Senators fell to Winston-Salem State University 18-1 and 9-2.
In Game 3, The Rams started off very strong, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning, with no stopping the Rams offense, who won by a final of 18-1.
The hosts found a way to score three runs in the first inning, and three in the second. After a scoreless third inning, the Rams put two more runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth, and one in the fifth inning, making it 9-0.
The Senators will return to action next Saturday as they face Carson-Newman University in Tennessee for another pair of non-conference doubleheaders. The games are set for 12:00 and 2:00 PM.
