GREENSBORO, N.C. - Davis & Elkins ran the gauntlet on Saturday with consecutive duals against Averett and Greensboro College in a tri-meet in North Carolina. The Senators racked up four falls in a 27-23 triumph over Averett to begin the day before following it up two more falls in a 30-24 win against host Greensboro.
Craig Cook helped the Senators get back on track in the 133-pound bout with a fall against Averett, but neither team could separate themselves throughout the dual.
Clifton Ruggiero kicked the intensity into another gear off the restart, dropping William Merritt with several takedowns before wrapping him up for a fall victory at the 1:38 mark.
Noah Tarr followed it up with the Senators fourth fall of the dual in the 165-pound bout, controlling his opponent to the middle of the mat before outmuscling him for the win.
Charles Morrison competed in one of the best matches of the dual, making a late charge to earn a sudden victory over Kowan Lee to provide D&E with just enough separation to hold on for the win.

Shawn Moore picked up a win by forfeit to start the dual. Cook worked his way in position for a pair of key takedowns in the third frame to pick up a decision victory at 133 against Greensboro.
Anthony Peencook and Nick Encarnacion went back-and-forth in an even bout at 149 pounds. Peencook gained an offensive advantage midway through the match to surge ahead 12-5 and the junior fended off a final charge from Encarnacion to hold on for the decision victory.
Thompson and Ruggiero wrapped up the day with their second victory by fall, helping D&E take a 24-6 advantage. Tarr kept the momentum going for Davis & Elkins following a win by medical default, marking the fourth consecutive bout won for the Senators in the dual.
The hosts answered with three consecutive falls to close the final margin.
