SCOUTING THE SENATORS
"What a difference a year has made," says head wrestling coach Jerry Boland, who will lead the Senators wrestling program into their first dual meet on Friday. D&E makes the short trip to Philippi to take on Alderson Broaddus in the 3rd Annual Hams and Slams event.

Since the announcement of the program on November 26th, 2018, the team has developed from a dream to reality. With a roster of 17 wrestlers from six different states, Coach Boland is excited to watch the freshmen class build experience, but adds that "they don't act like freshmen in the wrestling room". In addition to the 12 freshmen, the Senators add two upperclassman transfers, and three wrestlers with collegiate wrestling experience. Kyle Wojtaszek, Noah Tarr, and Anthony Pencook will enter Friday having set foot on the mat in a collegiate match, and that leadership is something Boland says has been invaluable leading up to today.

"It's all become a reality very quick," Boland said. "From the first workout, to the first day of practice, to now preparing for the meet, it's been great to see the hunger in these kids. They are all ready to make an impact, and that attitude should translate into competition."

The Senators have a schedule laid out with 16 dual meets, including two home meets (February 8th vs. Fairmont State and February 14th vs. UNC Pembroke), leading up to their appearance in Super Regional II in Pembroke, N.C. on February 28th. The top three wrestlers in each weight class at the Super Regional will advance to the NCAA Division II Championships in Sioux Falls, S.D. on March 13th.
