Box Score SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Tennis team opened up the spring semester on Friday, falling to Slippery Rock University 8-1.
The Senators started behind falling in doubles action 0-3. Despite the losses, the Senators had two close matches.
Kelsie Roby and
Ester Bolmenas lost their doubles match 7-9, pushing Lauren Fadden and Amy Varckette to the end in a tight battle.
Laura Fermosel and
Elise Simon also played a close match in their doubles set against Lacey Cohen and Corrochano. The duo challenged the Slippery Rock No.1 pairing before eventually falling 4-8.
Fermosel would get the better of Cohen once singles play started. Fermosel won the first set 6-4 and then sealed the victory with a 7-5 win in set two.
Laura Vargas made her debut on for the Senators and played a tight match in No. 3 singles. Vargas pushed Olivia Warner in both sets but eventually fell 4-6, 4-6.
Simon and Bolmenas both fell 6-2, 6-3 in their singles matches. Simon dropped her match in No. 2 singles to Viola Lugmayr. Bolmenas fell to Fadden in No. 4 singles.
The Senators will now set their sights on a match with West Virginia State. Davis & Elkins will travel to Institute on February 17 with the match set for a noon start.
