Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Tennis team fell to West Virginia State University 9-0 this evening at the Charleston Indoor Tennis Facility.
Despite the lopsided score, the Senators played several tight matches against the heavily favored opposition. In the top doubles match,
Laura Fermosel and
Elise Simon pushed the #25 double pairing in the country of Kierstin Hensley and Nina Dillwald before eventually falling 8-6.
Amanda Fewster and
Karin Rosario also had a close doubles match, playing Nika Tadic and Graziele Preterotto close early before eventually falling 8-4.
In singles play, Fermosel picked up several points against Laura Isbey, but eventually dropped the No. 1 singles match 6-2, 6-3.
Ester Bolmenas had a very strong first set in No. 4 singles, forcing Hanna Koutsavaya to a seventh an extra point before falling 7-5 in the first set. Bolmenas eventually fell 6-0 in the second set.
Kelsie Roby also had a long first set in the No. 5 singles match, pushing Kayla McKnight before falling 6-4, 6-1.
The Senators will return to action on March 4, when they face Chowan to open up their spring break trip in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The match is set for 8 a.m.
