FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Swimming wrapped up the fall semester with a dual meet victory over host Fairmont State University Saturday afternoon. The Senators defeated Fairmont 126-60.
Three different Senators earned victories in the event with 10 different Senators helping Davis & Elkins to 20 podium finishes in the race.
The Senators were led by
Pedro Gaspar, who swept through his three events with big victories. Gaspar started off with a victory in the 200-yard Freestyle, edging teammate
Sam Windham in Gaspar's tightest race of the meet. Gaspar touched in with a 1:49.09, while Windham suffered his only defeat of the day with a time of 1:50.74.
Gaspar would then breeze through is other races, first by winning the 200-yard Individual Medley with a 2:02.83. Gapsar was over four seconds faster than teammate
Ricard Castan, who took second and was 4.6 seconds ahead of third place.
Gaspar would close out his meet with a victory in the 100-yard Freestyle, leading the Senators to a 1-2-3 sweep of the podium with a 49.52.
Chris Carter took second with a 52.45 and
Kamren McKinney-Lyons took third with a 52.51.
As mentioned earlier, Windham would win his other races on Saturday, picking up two victories. After his second to Gaspar, Windham took the top spot in the 100-yard Butterfly, winning with a time of 55.37.
Gavin Burnham would take third in the event with a 58.48.
Windham would then close out his races with a victory in the 500-yard Freestyle, leading the Senators to a 1-2-3 sweep with a 5:03.25.
Bernardo Rodrigues and Alessandro Trujillo would take second and third.
Rodrigues and Trujillo would take second and third in another 1-2-3 sweep for the Senators, as Davis & Elkins would win the 1000-yard Freestyle event with Castan leading the way in his only victory of the day. Castan finished with a time of 10:35.64 for the win.
Castan would also take second in the 100-yard Backstroke with a 57.16.
Aaron Strynar would finish third for the Senators with a 58.94.
McKinney-Lyons,
Kalvin Spells and Carter would grab the other podium spots for the Senators in the event.
McKinney-Lyons took second in the 50-yard Freestyle with a 23.05.
Spells and Carter would go 2-3 in the 100-yard Breaststroke. Spells touched in with a 1:04.14, while Carter finished with a 1:04.64.
Davis & Elkins will return to competition on January 12 with the Battle of the Hills against West Virginia Wesleyan. The meet will be held at Wesleyan with a 1 p.m. start scheduled in Buckhannon.
