Box Score FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Tennis team picked up its first win of the season on Tuesday, defeating Fairmont State 5-2 in a non-conference match.
The Senators (1-1) started strong, winning four of the six singles matches over host Fairmont (2-3), which were played first in the event, before concluding with doubles.
Taylour Newman picked up the first victory for the Senators, clinching the No. 2 singles match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Isadora Matos.
Newman would also pick up a win in doubles with partner
Elise Simon at No. 1 singles as Matos and Trinite' Klamadji retired after the set reached 3-3.
Valentine Schwartz earned the next victory for the Senators. Schwartz won the No. 4 singles match with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Hayley Hatfield.

Laura Vargas earned the other doubles victory for the Senators, securing the doubles point, with a 6-2 win over Hatfield and Katelyn Shirkey.
Vargas would earn a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 5 singles match, defeating Bailey Edeburn.
The match would be decided at No. 6 singles, as
Kelsie Roby picked up the fourth and clinching point with her 6-0, 6-1 victory over Shirkey.
The Senators will return to action on October 10, as Davis & Elkins hosts West Virginia State. The match is set for a 1 p.m. start at the Thomas Tennis Center.
