Box Score ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Tennis team fell to West Virginia State 7-0 Tuesday afternoon at the Thomas Tennis Center.
The Senators struggled early in doubles play and were unable to keep pace with the visiting Yellow Jackets once the matched turned to singles action.
Ester Bolmenas and
Kelsie Roby had the closest doubles match, falling 6-2 in the No. 3 match to Chante' Malo and Sydney Miller.
Elise Simon, who played in her final match as a Senator before graduation in December, along with teammate
Taylour Newman fell to West Virginia State No. 1 pairing Laura Isbey and Kierstin Hensley 6-1.
In singles play,
Laura Vargas had the tightest battle. Vargas fell in the No. 5 match 6-4, 6-4 to Malo.
Simon, Newman, Bolmenas and
Valentine Schwartz all fell 6-1, 6-0 in their singles matches.
Davis & Elkins will be off for the remainder of the fall semester before returning to action on February 16, when the Senators travel to Erie, Pennsylvania to take on Edinboro.
