ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Tennis team clinched the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship on Sunday with a 9-0 win over Kentucky Wesleyan at the Thomas Tennis Center.
The Senators (9-9, 5-0 G-MAC) made quick work of doubles action, as
Laura Fermosel and
Elise Simon picked up an 8-1 victory in No. 1 doubles over Elizabeth Clayton and Hanna Blythe to lead the way.
Ester Bolmenas and
Kelsie Roby also had a convincing doubles victory in the No. 3 match with an 8-2 win over Eva Sampson and Abby Meyer.
Fermosel led the way in singles play, picking up a quick 6-0, 6-0 victory over Clayton in the No. 1 match.
Kalee Sherrard had another quick match, winning 6-2, 6-1 over Rachel Kinsolving in the No. 6 match.
Amanda Fewster earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the No. 4 singles match over Meyer, while Bolmenas won 6-4, 6-2 over Amanda Gossett.
The Senators will return to action on Monday, hosting Bluefield College in a non-conference battle. The match is set for 3 p.m. at the Thomas Tennis Center.
