ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Tennis team picked up its first home win of the season and moved to 3-0 in conference play with an 8-1 victory over rival Alderson Broaddus at the Thomas Tennis Center.
The Senators were off to a strong start, as they swept through doubles action.
Laura Fermosel and
Elise Simon made quick work of Mireia Fabrega and Eva Sever, winning the No. 1 doubles match 8-1.
Ester Bolmenas and
Kelsie Roby also had a quick doubles match in the No. 3 slot, defeating Taylor England and Chelsea Jefferson 8-3.
Amanda Fewster and
Haileigh Carper had a tight doubles match in the No. 2 position, but walked away with an 8-6 win over Jordyn Walker and Rhea John.
In singles play, Carper had the quickest victory, cruising past Jefferson with a pair of 6-1 set victories.
Fewster had a slow start to her match, but recovered nicely to defeat England 6-3, 6-0. The same could be said for Simon, who defeated Fabrega 6-4, 6-0.
Roby and Fermosel both started off their singles matches with 6-1 set wins. Roby defeated Walker to clinch her point with a second set victory of 6-2. Fermosel would seal her victory with a 6-3 second set over John.
The Senators will have an off day before returning to action on Wednesday with a match against Salem International. First serve will follow the men's match and is set for an approximate start time of 4 p.m.
