ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Tennis team wrapped up a sweep of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference regular season on Thursday, defeating Alderson Broaddus 8-1 to finish the year 6-0 in conference play.
The Senators started off with a 3-0 sweep of doubles action.
Laura Fermosel and
Elise Simon earned an 8-2 win on the No. 1 doubles match, while
Kelsie Roby and
Ester Bolmenas won 8-1 in the No. 3 match.
Amand Fewster and
Haileigh Carper needed a tiebreaker, but won 9-8 (10-4) in their No. 2 doubles match.
In singles action, Fermosel was on her way to a victory with a 6-1, 5-1 lead when her opponent was forced to retire due to injury in the No. 1 match.
Bolmenas and Fewster also played full matches, earning victories. Bolmenas won 6-2, 7-5 in No. 3 singles and Fewster won 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 5 match.
With the match already decided, Simon earned an 8-6 win and Roby won 8-0 in shortened matches.
The Senators will return to action on Saturday in an exhibition match against Harford CC at the Thomas Tennis Center. The match is set for a 12 p.m. start.
