ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins Women's Tennis team returned to winning ways on Tuesday, as the Senators defeated future G-MAC opponent Walsh University 6-3 at the Thomas Tennis Center.
The Senators started off with a pair of victories in doubles, as
Laura Fermosel and
Elise Simon earned an 8-5 win over Sofya Logunova and Mercedes Fernandez to get things started.
Kelsie Roby and
Ester Bolmenas also picked up a win in doubles, defeating Gabriela Laguna-Leon and Natalie Molnar 8-6.
The Senators would also pick up four wins in singles play on the day.
Fermosel and Roby swept their matches on the day, as both one their respective singles points as well.
Fermosel overcame a 5-1 deficit in set one to win 7-5, 6-4 in the No. 1 match over Logunova.
Roby earned a quick 6-0 win in set one over Laguna-Leon in the No. 4 match. She then won 6-4 to seal her victory.
Amanda Fewster and
Haileigh Carper secured the victory for the Senators with their singles points.
Carper clinched the win with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Molnar in the No. 6 match.
Fewster overcame a first set defeat to win 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 over Snezhana Kiseleva in the No. 5 match.
The Senators will have a day off before returning to action at Alderson Broaddus on Thursday to wrap up conference play for Davis & Elkins. The match is set for a 3 p.m. start in Philippi.
