ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Swim team opened its dual meet schedule with a 147-98 defeat to Centre College, despite several quality early-season swims from the Senators Saturday afternoon at the Myles Pool.
Kenya Paiz and
Vitoria Issaho dos Santos both had perfect afternoons in their individual races.
Paiz led the way for the Senators, winning all three of her events, starting with the 100-Yard Breaststroke. Paiz swam to a win by over three seconds in the event with a 1:12.27.
The senior would then pick up a win in the 200-Yard Individual Medley, edging out a tight battle with a 2:17.16. Paiz won the race by .37 seconds.
Paiz closed out a dominating day with a 5+ second win in the 200-Yard Breaststroke, winning with a time of 2:38.36.
Fellow senior Issaho dos Santos had a very similar day for the Senators as she also picked up three individual wins. She opened the meet with a win in the 100-Yard Backstroke, touching in at 1:01.95, nearly two seconds ahead of second.
Issaho dos Santos would then stake claim to the 200-Yard Freestyle victory in one of the tightest battles of the day, winning by .07 seconds with a 1:59.93.
Like her teammate Paiz, Issaho dos Santos also closed out a dominating day with a 5+ second win in the 200-Yard Backstroke, winning with a time of 2:15.59.
Jocelyn Humpe had a solid afternoon for the Senators, scoring a second-place finish and two third-place finishes.
Humpe earned a second in the 50-Yard Freestyle with a 27.10. The junior had third-place finishes in the 100-Yard Butterfly (1:07.91) and the 200-Yard Butterfly (2:39.71).
Jaime Boulier earned a third-place finish in the 5000-Yard Freestyle with a 5:37.65.
Mia Ellison bested her fellow sophomore in Boulier for a third-place finish in the 1000-Yard Freestyle, finishing with a time of 11:26.63.
Sophomore
Victoria Fletcher also had a podium finish on Saturday, finishing with a 1:02.83 in the 100-Yard Freestyle.
The Senators will return to action next Saturday with another dual meet at the Myles Pool. Davis & Elkins will face Urbana with the meet set for a 5 p.m. start.
