ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College swim program wrapped up its home schedule and the regular season on Saturday by defeating Salem International in both the men's and women's events.
The men's program completed an undefeated dual-meet season and has not lost an event since the opening meet of the year. The men defeated Salem International 218-34, while the women recovered from their only dual meet defeat with a 204-32 win that featured three of the four records set on the day.
Vitoria Issaho dos Santos set a pool record in the 100-Backstroke, while
Brooke Bielecki set a team record in the 100-Fly. Both programs established pool records in the 800-Free Relays as well.
Issaho dos Santos broke teammate
Kenya Paiz's pool record time in the 100-Backstroke with a 1:01.68 for one of three individual victories on the day. Issaho dos Santos also claimed a win in the 200-Backstroke (2:24.20) and the 50-Free (26.13).
Bielecki swam to victory in the 100-Fly, setting a new school record, breaking teammate
Chelsea Faris' time with a 1:02.35. She also picked up wins in the 100- (56.68) and 200-Free (2:02.87) events.
The two record setters were joined by senior swimmers Faris and
Kendal Williams in the 800-Free Relay, where the group also established a pool record with a time of 8:40.30.
On the men's side, seniors
Chris Swank,
Zayd Othman,
Colton Allen and
Brandon Sellers also teamed up to set a pool record with a 7:55.84 in the 800-Free Relay.
Allen also won two individual events on the day, taking the 100-Backstroke (1:00.14) and 200-Backstroke (2:14.41).
Swank and Othman also had victories in individual events. Othman won the 100-Fly (56.56), edging out Sellers (57.15). Swank also had to edge a teammate for his win in the 100-Free (51.37), edging
Sam Windham (51.52).
Windham did pick up a pair of victories however, taking the 200-Free (1:50.48) in a 1-2-3 sweep for D&E with
Javier Sanchez (1:50.93) and Sellers (1:59.43) taking second and third. Windham also won the 200-Fly (2:10.86).
Austin Pillado and
Kenya Paiz also had multiple victories each in the wins. Pillado started off his day with a win in the 1000-Free (10:17.27) and then showed off his versatility going from the longest race to the shortest race with a win in the 50-Free (23.06). Pillado capped off his night with a win in the 500-Free (5:03.72).
Like Pillado, Paiz also had three victories on the day, staring off with a win in the 100-Breaststroke (1:13.81). She then won the 500-Free (5:49.67) before closing out her afternoon with a win in the 200-Indivdual Medley (2:30.81).
Three other women also picked up victories in the meet, as Jamie Bouiler won the 1000-Free (11:32.42), Jocelyn Humpe won the 200-Fly (2:34.64) and
Mia Ellison won the 200-Breaststroke (2:54.19).
All three teamed up with Paiz to win the 200-Medley Relay that began the meet with a 2:06.71.
On the men's side, Chris Carter had an individual win in the 100-Breastsroke (1:05.35). Sanchez and
David Funk also had victories, winning the 200-Breasstroke (2:19.78) and 200-Individual Medley (2:14.57), respectively.
Funk and Sanchez also raced with Swank and
Zack Fraley to a 200-Medley Relay win with a 1:46.12.
The Senators will now set their sights on the Blue Mountain Conference Championships, which will be held February 8-11 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
