ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Swim program remained undefeated in dual meet action this season with a win over West Virginia Wesleyan and the women's swim program set a couple records, as the two programs combined for a 427-355 victory over Wesleyan in the Battle of the Hills.
The event, which featured 20 races on Friday in Elkins and 22 on Saturday in Buckhannon, was the second to last regular season meet of the year for D&E and the Senators took a couple of pool records Friday night.
Brooke Bielecki broke the first pool record by topping her own mark in the 200-Freestyle with a 54.51, topping her previous best time at the Myles Pool of a 54.77.
In the very next event,
Vitoria Issaho dos Santos also broke her own record with a 2:13.41 in the 200-Backstroke. Issaho dos Santos' previous record was 2:13.64.
Those two victories were a part of 16 total wins for the Senators on night one.
Issaho dos Santos would also win in the 1000-Freestyle (11:12.96) and the 200-Freestyle (2:01.14), completing a sweep of her events on the night.
Bielecki, who was one of nine Senators' swimmers honored on senior night, also picked up multiple victories, as she won the 50-Freestyle with a 24.79. Bielecki would take second in her third and final event, finishing runner up in the 200-Breaststroke to
Kenya Paiz with a 2:39.57.
Paiz would win both of her events on the night, winning the 200-Breaststroke with a 2:35.32 after winning the 200-Individual Medley earlier in the night with a 2:20.77.
Senior
Chris Swank also picked up victories on their senior night. Swank won the 50-Freestyle with a 22.73 and was a part of the 200-Freestyle Relay victory with fellow senior
Brandon Sellers, as well as
Sam Windham and
Aaron Strynar.
Strynar also added a win in the 200-Backstroke with a 2:03.20 and Windham won the 1000-Freestyle with a 10:14.42.
Sellers teamed up with fellow seniors Colten Allen and
Zayd Othman, as well as Chris Carter in the Men's 400-Medley Relay victory.
Senior
Austin Pillado was a two-event winner on the night. The senior swam away with victories in the 100-Freestyle (49.01) and 200-Freestyle (1:48.34) on Friday night.
Javier Sanchez grabbed a pair of wins to close out the victories for D&E on the night. Sanchez started off with a win in the 200-Medley, winning by nearly nine seconds with a 2:01.28. He then won the 200-Breaststroke with a 2:12.62.
On Saturday, the Senators would add 13 more victories to their tally in the two-day event. One of the biggest victories came from Sanchez, who broke Pillado's record in the 100-Individual Medley, winning with a 56.73.
Sanchez also won the 400-Individual Medley on Saturday, finishing with nearly a nine second advantage with a 4:17.27.
On the men's side, Pillado and Windham also had multiple event victories on day two. Pillado earned victories in the 50-Freestyle (22.72) and the 100-Freestyle (49.78). Windham added wins in the 500-Freestyle (4:55.72) and the 100-Butterfly (55.40).
On the women's side, Issaho dos Santos and Paiz were multi-event winners for two consecutive days. Issaho dos Santos won the 200-Freestyle (2:03.71) and the 100-Backstroke (1:03.46). Paiz claimed victories in the 100-Individual Medley (1:04.46) and the 100-Breaststroke (1:12.14).
Bielecki won the 50-Freestyle for the second day in a row, winning with a 25.62.
Like day one, Strynar also found himself on a winning relay and an event. The sophomore won the 100-Backstroke with a 56.48. He also teamed up with Carter, Othman and
David Funk for a win in the 200-Medley Relay.
The Senators will return to action next Saturday with their final meet before the Blue Mountain Conference meet next month. D&E will welcome in Salem International with the meet set to begin at 1 p.m. in the George A. Myles Pool.
