PHILIPPI, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College Men's and Women's Swimming teams picked up big victories over rival Alderson Broaddus on Friday night.
The D&E Women's team doubled up the Battlers, winning 129-63. The Senators Men's team had an even bigger night, winning 159-38.
Kenya Paiz set a school record in the 200-Breaststroke, breaking teammate
Brooke Bielecki's time of 2:39.16 with a 2:36.78. Bielecki finished second in the event and
Kendal Williams took third for a sweep.
The Senators combined for ten 1-2-3 sweeps of events in the dual meet, with the women scoring three and the men scoring seven.
Sam Windham led two of those sweeps, winning all three of his events on the night. Windham started off the night with a win in the 200-Free event, finishing with a time of 1:49.24.
Colton Allen and
Ethan Coleman finished third and fourth in the event.
Windham then led a sweep of the 200-Butterfly, finishing with a 2:03.11.
Christian Arrell and
Zayd Othman finished second and third for the Senators to help score max points in the event.
Windham's night finished up with a win in the 500-Free event, as
Austin Pillado and
Aaron Strynar rounded out the top three. Windham touched the wall with a 4:56.38 just outpacing Pillado, who finished with a 4:57.07.
Pillado and Strynar also picked up wins on the night. Pillado led the Senators to a sweep of the 1000-Free event, finishing with a time of 10:14.96.
Ryan O'Connell and Arrell finished in second and third for D&E.
Strynar picked up a win in the 200-Backstroke, finishing with a time of 2:03.77 for the victory. Allen and
Zack Fraley finished third and fourth in the event.
On the women's side,
Vitoria Issaho dos Santos swam to victories in all three of her events on the night. She opened up her meet with a win in the 200-Free, touching the wall with a time of 2:02.63. Issaho dos Santos then won the 200-Backstroke, racing to a 2:15.34, finishing ahead of Paiz, the only non-win of the night for Paiz.
Paiz claimed victories in the 200-Individual Medley (2:19.41) and the aforementioned 200-Breaststroke.
Issaho dos Santos finished up her night by leading the Senators to a sweep of the 500-Free event, finishing with a time of 5:29.24.
Mia Ellison and
Chelsea Faris swam to second and third place finishes, respectively.
Ellison also picked up a victory Friday night, leading the Senators to a sweep in the 1000-Free, the first individual event of the night. Ellison touched the wall with a time of 11:39.61. Williams finished in second and
Emily Coleman took third.
Chris Swank,
Javier Sanchez and Bielecki all had two victories on the night.
Swank led the Senators to a pair of sweeps, with wins in the 50- and 100-Free events. Swank finished with a 22.64 in the 50-Free, beating out teammates
Brandon Sellers and
David Funk.
The trio then swept the 100- Free, as Swank touched in with a 49.39 to lead the way.
Bielecki also had victories in the 50- and 100-Free events. Bielecki swam a 25.34 in the shortest event, winning in dominating fashion by 1.6 seconds. She then won the 100-Free with a 55.93, nearly three seconds ahead of second place.
Javier Sanchez rounded out the victories for the Senators in the meet, winning the 200-Individual Medley and the 200-Breaststroke, both sweeps for D&E. Sanchez took victory in the 200-IM with a 2:04.37.
Gavin Burnham and Chris Carter followed him up for second and third, respectively.
Sanchez then wrapped up the individual events on the night with a win in the 200-Breaststroke, touching the wall with a 2:16.48. Carter and O'Connell swam to second and third place finishes to complete the final sweep of the night.
The Senators will now have a week off before tuning up for the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational on November 19 and 20.
