BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Tennis team picked up its first win of the year in a non-conference match against Notre Dame College on Sunday.
The two teams played at West Virginia Wesleyan College in a neutral site match, with the Senators leaving as 8-1 winners.
The Senators started off the day with a sweep of doubles action. The pairings of
Ester Bolmenas and
Haileigh Carper, as well as
Marlene Ridgway and
Amanda Fewster, picked up 8-0 wins in their respective doubles matches.
The pairing of
Laura Fermosel and
Elise Simon also won in doubles action, winning 8-3 over Notre Dame College's pairing of Laura Herrera and Ilona Zaishliuk.
In singles play, Fermosel and Bolmenas had the toughest matches of the day. Fermosel won the No.1 match over Herrera 6-2, 7-6 (4).
However, Bolmenas fell in the No.2 match 6-2, 6-2 to Zaishliuk, the only loss on the day for D&E.
The rest of the Senators all won convincingly in straight sets. Simon defeated Maria Cevallos 6-0, 6-3 in the No.3 match, while Fewster defeated Camryn Kidd 6-1, 6-0 in the No.4 match.
In No.5 singles, Ridgeway topped Hanna Fisher 6-0, 6-1, while Carper closed out the day with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Taylor Bruck in the No.6 singles match.
Sunday's win wraps up the fall schedule for the Women's Tennis team, who are scheduled to return to action in late February.
