PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Davis & Elkins College opened the NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championships on Monday with a first-round team score of 300 (+12), placing the Senators in 16th place after the opening round at PGA National Resort's Champions Course.
D&E sits just one stroke behind University of Charleston (+11), its Mountain East Conference counterpart, heading into Tuesday's second round.
The Senators were led by three rounds of 2-over-par 74 from Zak Collins, Lucio Pavicich, and Elias Jarn. The trio helped keep D&E steady on a demanding layout that has hosted PGA Tour events and Ryder Cups.
Isaac Gregson and Aidan Talent each posted rounds of 78 (+6) to round out the team scoring.
D&E will look to climb the leaderboard during Tuesday's second round of stroke play. The top eight teams after 54 holes will advance to the match-play portion of the national championship.
The NCAA appearance marks another historic chapter for the D&E program, which won the Atlantic/East Regional title earlier this month.
