Pavicich Wins MEC Spring Classic, Talent Named MEC Freshman of the Year

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins College men's golf braved difficult conditions to post a strong performance at the Mountain East Conference Spring Classic, held March 24-25 at Berry Hills Country Club, highlighted by Lucio Pavicich earning medalist honors and Aidan Talent being named MEC Freshman of the Year.

Pavicich carded rounds of 74 and 72 for a two-day total of 146 (+6), claiming the individual title and First-Team All-MEC honors. He closed out the final round with four consecutive pars to seal the come-from-behind victory — the first collegiate win of his career.

"Lucio Pavicich made four straight pars to end his day and get the come-from-behind win," head coach Patrick Smith said. "This is his first collegiate win. I am super proud of him — he overcame the harsh weather on a tough course to earn this win. He had been knocking on the door, and I'm glad he got the job done."

Aidan Talent joined Pavicich on the All-MEC First Team after posting rounds of 78 and 75 for a 153 total (+13). The freshman's consistent play throughout the season earned him the MEC Freshman of the Year honor.

Elias Jarn earned Second-Team All-MEC recognition with rounds of 80 and 77 (+17), while Mateo Ferrer was named an Honorable Mention after shooting 79 and 81 (+20) as an individual.

The Senators' improvement on the second day was a key storyline of the event, as they overcame brutal weather conditions to post the lowest team round of the day.

"We really struggled the first day of the tournament," Smith said. "The course was playing very difficult and the winds were gusting over 30 mph. The second day we got off to a better start and made a few putts. With the temperatures in the low 40s and a steady rain falling, it made scoring a challenge. We were able to shoot the best round on day two by five strokes — a 13-stroke improvement from day one."
