SNOWSHOE, W. Va. -- The Davis & Elkins men's golf team narrowly missed out on winning the Dr. Wally Edgell Invitational tournament at the Raven Golf Club on Tuesday, leading after the first round but ultimately falling six strokes behind the University of Charleston to finish as runners-up.
"We had a great round 1," said Head Coach
Patrick Smith. "Four of the guys played great, including a -2 70 from Junior
Leonardo Turra. Round 2 was a bit of a struggle for us as the temperatures dropped. Round 3 we got off to a rough start but played the last nine holes under par as a team. We played a good tournament, just got edged out by an experienced Charleston squad."
Turra got off to a hot start, leading after the first round with a stellar -2 before slipping behind in round 2 and ultimately finishing in a tie for ninth place. Sophomore
Elias Jarn led the Senators, carding a +3, just one stroke behind the leader from UC to finish in second place.
