Twyman leads the way for the Senators breaking two school records at Lynchburg

Lynchburg, Va. – The Senator track teams competed this past Friday and Saturday in the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic hosted by the University of Lynchburg.

Competing against twenty-six other colleges and once again battling windy conditions the Senators had another strong meet with many personal best times and movement up the MEC and Regional performance lists.

Highlights from the meet:

Women
Sophomore Lauren Twyman was a double school record breaker running 5:05.31 in the mile (4:42 1500 conversion) and 2:18.80 in the 800. Twyman is now currently in all-region position (5th)  in the 1500 based off her mile conversion.
 
Sophomore Savanna Hardman for the second straight week just missed a school record by just 4-seconds. Last week it was in the 5K when she ran 17:55 and this week it was in her first ever 10K running 39:38 to finish 2nd overall.
 
Freshman Zoe Belshan had a big personal best in the 5K running 18:44 in the 5K.  In the pen 1500, freshman Cameryn Wheeler finished 2nd overall running 4:55.31 and Ella Hesson ran 5:15 (mile) and 2:23 800. Also under 2:25 in the 800 was freshman Hannah Scoggin running 2:24.95.
 
Men
Junior Carter McKenna (4:11) and Junior Jackson Gibson (4:14) to finish 4th and 5th overall in the Invite Mile. Sophomore Cooper Gibson ran 4:18.53.
 
Jackson Gibson led a big D&E charge in the 800 (1:54.34). In total the Senators had seven runners under 1:58.72. Cooper Gibson 1:55.99, Carter McKenna 1:57.21, Sophomore Konnor Allison 1:57.84, Freshman Slate Swiger 1:58.12, Sophomore Martin Lucas 1:58.17, and Freshman Charlie Stephenson 1:58.72.
 
Freshman Ian Wood running in the 110 high hurdles finished 3rd overall in a personal best (15.56).
 
Freshman Charlie Stephenson running in his first race since winning the indoor MEC 3000m championship opened up the outdoor season with a controlled 14:48 5K (5th place) with Junior Jan Thewes right behind (14:52, 6th place) with Henry Schmidt (15:01) and Konnor Allison (15:13) not far behind.
 
Senior Thijs Terlouw finished second overall in the 10K running 32:14.

Next up is a trip Friday April 19th to nearby WV Wesleyan for a small tune up meet before the MEC Outdoor Championships April 28th-30th.
