Podium Finish for Women's Relay Team Highlights MEC Indoor Championships

Huntington, W. Va. -- The women's Distance Medley Relay third place finish highlighted a strong two days at the MEC Indoor Championships. The group of Cameryn Wheeler, Hannah Scoggin, Ella Hesson, and Lauren Twyman combined for a time of 10:41.

In the women's individual events the Senators had 3 different women finish just one spot from podium-finishing All-MEC honors. Friday night, Lydia Falkenstein finished fourth place in the 5000m (18:02) and was followed closely by teammate Savanna Hardman (fifth, 18:10) and Kaitlin Pappas (eighth, 18:46). Zoe Belshan just missed scoring in the event but had one of the bigger PR's of the weekend, cutting 27-seconds off her time to run 19:00 for eleventh place.

Cameryn Wheeler just missed the podium with a strong fourth place finish in the 800m (2:21) and less than half a second from third. Ella Hesson ran 2:23 to finish eighth in the tightly-packed final.

Savanna Hardman ran her second big PR of the weekend in the 3000m (10:26) to finish fourth place. Hardman ran PR's of 16-seconds in the 3000m and 32-seconds in the 5000m during the championships. Also scoring in the 3000m was Kaitlin Pappas (sixth, 10:44) and Ella Hesson (eighth, 10:50). Taytum Walls just missed scoring finishing ninth in a PR (2:24).

Lauren Twyman finished fifth place in the Mile, running a strong PR of 5:16. Sierra Taylor just missed scoring in the event in ninth place (5:31)

The final scoring event of the weekend for the women was the 4x400m Relay, where the group of Taytum Walls, Hannah Scoggin, Suze Gipmans, Cameryn Wheeler finished eighth place in 4:15.

The D&E women scored 37 points to finish eighth overall as a team, only 1 point from sixth and just 8 points from fifth place as team. Another impressive showing from an entirely distance focused group which only competed in 6 of the 17 events.

Both the women and men will now have five weeks without a competition, focusing on training in preparation for the start of the outdoor track season which begins in Lynchburg, Va. on March 23. Women's Full Event Results
