Charleston, Wv. – The Davis & Elkins men's golf team competed in the University of Charleston Invitational this week at Edgewood Country Club. The team finished in fourth place and the program had some stand-out individual performances.
The Senators had their team as well as five individuals playing this weekend. Freshman Lewis Beeden led the team in round one, carding five birdies on way to a one under par round of 70, just one shot behind the individual leader. Jordan Hyland finished with a 74 (+3), Jack Coleman battled after a bad start to sign for a 75 (+4), and both Sean McAufield and Sean Addie shot a 77 (+6).
The individuals had a solid first round with Jack Harlen-Robertson having 14 pars on his way to shooting a 71 (Even Par), and Evan Lewis included four birdies in his round of 73 (+2).
Round 2 saw some improvement from the team, with four players beating their round-one score. Sean McAufield and Jack Coleman both finished with a 72 (+1), and Hyland and Addie both signed for 73 (+2) to give the team a 290 (+6) total in round 2.
Evan Lewis stole the show for the Senators in round two with a bogey-free round of 67 (-4). Evan started on hole 17, making birdie on the first hole, back-to-back birdies on seven and eight, then added one more for good measure on 12. It was Evan's first career bogey-free round and left him in a tie for third place individually at 140 (-2). Freshmen Leonardo Turra and Samuel Rached both had solid days, shooting 71 (even par) and 74 (+3) respectively.
