CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College men's golf team played in the Mountain East Conference Spring Classic at Berry Hills Country Club in Charleston on Monday and Tuesday. They battled cold and windy conditions on a challenging course on their way to a second-place finish. Both rounds of the tournament had to be pushed back to later in the day due to cold conditions and course conditions in the early mornings.
Round One
The Senators were led by a steady
Evan Lewis as he shot a 5-over par 75, which included 13 pars on Monday.
Sean Addie was one shot behind him at 6-over par, with three birdies on his scorecard.
Jack Harlen-Robertson added a 77 with
Sean McAufield shooting a 78 for a team total of 306. D&E sat two shots behind the University of Charleston at the end of day one, while five ahead of both West Liberty and Glenville State.
Round Two
Davis & Elkins started well and had a strong lead after playing the first 10 holes at 4 over par as a team, in very cold conditions barely above freezing. West Liberty proved tough under the pressure, playing their last five holes as a team in 4-over par putting pressure on the Senators. As D&E faltered dropping 10 shots in their last five holes, the Hilltoppers were able to snatch the win from the Senators by one shot.
Jordan Hyland bounced back well with a second-round 73, 3-over par and
Evan Lewis recorded his second straight 75 for a 150 total and a tie for 6
th place.
Sean McAufield and
Sean Addie shot 76 and 77 respectively, taking the team total to 301 in round two.
This week's results paired with the Fall MEC Championship results gave three D&E players honors on the All-Conference teams.
Evan Lewis was named to the first-team for the third straight year, while
Jordan Hyland was named second-team and
Sean Addie earned an honorable mention.
