PINEHURST, N.C. – The Davis & Elkins men's golf team played at the Brown Golf Invitational over Friday and Saturday, finishing in a tie for second place. The team was made of five players with D&E fielding three individuals as well. D&E only lost out to nationally ranked Wayne State University.
The 36-hole event was scheduled for 18 holes to be played on both Friday and Saturday, but with inclement weather interrupting on Saturday, there were 30 holes and 10 hours of play completed on Friday. In round one, the Senators were led by
Jack Coleman, who carded a 72 (even par), followed by
Evan Lewis who was one shot behind him. After round one, D&E sat in second place four shots behind Wayne State.
In round two, which was played across Friday and Saturday,
Patrick Smith had the best of the team's scores with a 73 (+1).
Jordan Hyland matched his 74 (+2) from round one in round two and his 148 (+4) total was good enough for a tied ninth place individual. Hyland birdied his last three holes in round two which was vital in securing the team's second-place finish.
Sean McAufield,
Matin Eisa, and
Sean Addie were in the field as individual players for the Senators. McAufield finished in a tie for ninth as the best individual performance.
