WARREN, Ohio – The Davis & Elkins men's golf team climbed the leaderboard each day at the Mountain East Conference Championship, held at Avalon Lakes Golf Course to win the title by seventeen strokes.
The Senators finished the first round of the tournament in a tie with West Liberty University for third place and four strokes off the lead. Charleston led after round one with Glenville State trailing by one stroke.
The second day of the tournament saw a bit of shuffling. Charleston remained in the lead and D&E jumped to second and one stroke off the lead with the lowest round of the tournament to that point at 298. Glenville State fell to third and West Liberty fell to fifth with Fairmont State jumping ahead in fourth.
D&E made a charge on Day 3 and pulled ahead of the competition. All five of the Senators' players shot low rounds (a pair of 73's, 75, 76, and 77) and D&E had the lowest round of the tournament at 297. Glenville State jumped to second for a runner-up finish. Charleston faltered a bit and fell to third with a round of 317.
Jack Coleman and Evan Lewis led the Senators at +9 and +10, respectively. The two were named to the MEC All-Tournament Team. Coleman finished tied for third with rounds of 76, 74, and 75. Lewis finished tied for fifth with rounds of 80, 73, and 73.
Jordan Hyland and Lewis Beeden finished tied for ninth at +12. Hyland carded rounds of 81, 74, and 73, while Beeden finished a round of 74, 77, and 77.
Sean McAufield finished tied for sixteenth. His rounds of 78, 80, and 76 had him in the clubhouse at +18.
