BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Martin Lago earned MEC Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performance in a 1-0 season opening win over Salem Thursday evening.
The freshman from Vigo, Spain scored the only goal of the match on a header when he deflected a corner kick in the final minutes of regulation. His work on the defensive back line helped his team post a shutout and allow just one shot the entire game.
The University of Charleston's Sebastian Pavez was named the MEC Offensive Player of the week.
