ELKINS, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins College men's soccer team capped off their regular season with a decisive 4-0 Senior Day victory over West Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday at Nuttall Field. The win clinches the No. 3 seed for the Senators in the upcoming Mountain East Conference (MEC) tournament and sets up a rematch with the Bobcats, the No. 6 seed.
Senior forward Johan Magaña led the charge for D&E, opening the scoring in the 13th minute with an assist from Dominique Castano. Magaña struck again in the 26th minute, this time with help from Modou Faye, to give the Senators a 2-0 lead at halftime. The two goals puts his scoring tally up to 12 on the season.
The Senators continued to apply pressure in the second half, with Hugo Fauli finding the back of the net in the 64th minute, assisted by Shemar Daley. Moments later, Santiago Maiolo sealed the victory with D&E's fourth goal, once again assisted by Daley.
Senior goalkeeper Dante Ordenes was solid in net, recording his sixth shutout of the season with six saves to keep West Virginia Wesleyan off the scoreboard.
With the win, Davis & Elkins (9-5-3, 7-5-2 MEC) secured a home-field advantage for the MEC quarterfinals. The Senators will host No. 6 seed West Virginia Wesleyan in a rematch on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. at Nuttall Field. The MEC Championship is set for Nov. 17 at the highest remaining seed's venue.
