NORTH EAST, Pa. — Davis & Elkins men's golf jumped two spots in the team standings for a third-place finish, clinching an automatic bid to the 2021 NCAA DII National Championship tournament field, after wrapping up play at Lake View Country Club on Saturday.
D&E earns its first trip to the national tournament in school history as a member of the NCAA after carding team scores of 298, 319 and 301, finishing with a 918.
Gannon earned first in the team standings with a three-round 912, followed by St. Thomas Aquinas in second (915). Fayetteville State also clinched an automatic bid to nationals with a 932, finishing in a tie for fourth with Bentley.
The third-place finish adds another bright spot to a stellar season for D&E, which included an MEC Championship on April 22.
Evan Lewis recorded a one-over 73 for a tie for third overall, notching birdie twice on the front nine and again on the 15th hole. The 73 marked the second-best round of the season, previously carding a 72 in the final round of the MEC Championships.
Jack Harlen-Robertson and
Sean Addie each posted a final round 77, finishing in a tie for 15th and 22nd, respectively.
Jordan Hyland wrapped up the tournament with an 81 in the final round, while
Jack Coleman bounced back in a big way with a 74.
Davis & Elkins finishes up the season at the 2021 NCAA Men's Golf Championships from May 17-21 at the PGA National Resort in Florida.
