WARREN, Ohio -- Davis & Elkins finished the final day of competition strong on its way to wrapping up the 2021 Mountain East Conference Men's Golf title.
The Senators, which captured its first MEC title in golf in the program's second season in the league, had the two lowest rounds of the tournament with 306 on the first day and 300 on Thursday. D&E was 15 shots better than West Liberty (621). Davis & Elkins' top four players combined to shoot just four-over par over the final nine holes to pull away for the win.
J.D. Lamm picked up MEC Coach of the Year honors for the Senators, while the entire lineup earned all-conference accolades. In the team standings, Charleston was third (638), followed by Concord (646) and Fairmont State (671).
After an even-par round on the first day to take the lead, West Liberty's Alex Easthom gave four shots back to the field and shot 76 on day two for a two-day total of 148. D&E's
Evan Lewis made a charge on the final nine holes and sunk a birdie on the 18th hole to force a playoff for medalist honors. Easthom was able to win on the first playoff to earn the victory.
WLU's Howard Peterson was third, while the D&E duo of
Jack Coleman and
Jordan Hyland finished in a tie for fourth with Charleston's David Scragg to take the top six spots.
Sean Addie (7th; 82, 72) and
Jack Harlen-Robertson (12th; 80, 82) rounded out the D&E lineup, collecting All-MEC Second Team honors.
The Senators continue the season with an automatic qualifying berth at the 2021 NCAA Atlantic/East Region on May 6-8 at Lake View Country Club.
