CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins track & field continued to rewrite the school record books following another impressive outing at the Golden Eagle Invitational, hosted by Charleston (W.Va.), on Saturday.
The Senators finished sixth in the team standings on both the men's and women's side as part of a talented field.
Benjamin Banda cruised to first place in the 400m, zipping across the track in a school record 48.90, while teammate
Nokia Masengu earned second (49.13). Masengu kept improving on his times in the sprinting events, adding a school record 21.82 in the 200m, good for second overall.
Maya Brinson nabbed a school-record time in the 1500m, pacing a strong 5K race across the board for the Senators with a second-place finish of 18:22.16. The 5K group for the Senators ran strong across the board, including personal-best times for
Kloe Littleman (5th; 18:32.61),
Monika Kubai (6th; 18:34.33) and
Danielle Jividen (7th; 19:08.47).
D&E showcased its depth in the 5K on the men's side, clocking seven runners with a time under 16 minutes in the loaded race.
R.J. Weiford paced the finishers for the Senator men, breaking the 15-minute mark with a 14:54 (7th), while
Nizar Sweileh crossed close behind in 14:59.98 (9th).
Matthew Chapman scored for the Senators in the 3000m steeplechase, posting a school record 9:30.56 for third overall.
Dalton Irvine raced to first in the 110-meter hurdles after posting a 15:06.
Samantha Kirk continued her dominance in the women's 400-meter hurdles, picking up first place and extending her streak with a 1:04.01. Kirk completed the 200m in 26.15, good for sixth.
Scott Barker was part of several second-place times for D&E, clocking in at 1:59.93 in the 800m, just ahead of
David Magda in fourth (2:00.94).
Hannah Moore picked up second for the women in the 800 with a 2:24.87, accounting for the second-fastest time in school history.
Tijmen Bouw earned second in the 1500m, completing the race in 4:02.08. Less than 24 hours from playing in a double overtime draw on the women's soccer pitch,
Roxanne McFarlin sprinted to third in the 100m (12.69).
