PREVIEW: Men’s Basketball Clashes With West Virginia Wesleyan

THE OPENING TIP 
Davis & Elkins men's basketball is home for the second straight game, hosting West Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday at 7:30 PM inside the McDonnell Center. The Senators could not complete a second half rally in a 98-91 loss to Notre Dame (Ohio) on Monday.
 
West Virginia Wesleyan, winless on the season, is looking to refocus after a 111-64 loss to West Liberty.

  • How It Happened: Davis & Elkins men's basketball was outscored 54-35 in the second half as West Virginia Wesleyan used two separate scoring runs in the final 20 minutes to pull away from the visiting Senators, 84-70.

DAVIS & ELKINS NOTES
  • Down most of the second half, including by 11 with just 2:40 to go, Davis & Elkins got back to within one with 30 seconds left in a home loss to Notre Dame (Ohio).
  • The Senators placed five players in double figures in the 98-91 defeat. Breland Walton recorded his seventh double digit scoring game of the season with 18 points and eight rebounds. Walton ranks 11th in the league in scoring (18.8) and second in rebounding (11.1).
  • Sam Rolle IV had 23 points last time out against the Falcons, marking his third game with 20 or more in his first season. He added nine assists and ranks first in the MEC with 7.8 assists/game.
  • Gyasi Powell has notched double figures in the last three games, including 19 points and four assists against NDC.
  • Fable Burden III had a career day in his most extended action of his D&E career. Burden III posted 11 points and eight rebounds, adding a pair of steals.
  
SCOUTING WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN
  • Head coach Nick Patella, the previous head coach at D&E for four seasons, is now in his second year with the Bobcats.
  • Jaylin Reed is ninth in the league in scoring average (19.0), posting 20 or more points in five games this season.
  • Ross Young fired in 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the Bobcats road loss to West Liberty on February 7. Young has compiled four double-doubles on the season for WVWC.
  • The Bobcats are second to last in the MEC with a -3.4 turnover margin and a -15.9 scoring margin.
