BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkin's men's soccer team has put nine players on the All-Mountain East Conference Team with junior forward
Daniel Cerezo earning MEC Offensive Player of the Year, senior defender
Alex Estrada taking home MEC Defensive Player of the Year and head coach
Dean Johnson earning MEC Coach of the Year, the league announced Wednesday.
Along with Cerezo and Estrada, junior midfielder
Haruki Yamazaki, senior midfielder
David Jara, senior goalkeeper
Jeremy Coste, and sophomore defender
Gianluca Fiorini were all named to the All-MEC First Team. Freshman defender
Martin Lago was selected to the All-MEC Second Team squad and freshman midfielder
Dominique Castano was tabbed to All-MEC Freshman Team.
Cerezo, a Madrid, Spain native has scored 12 goals and assisted on three more scores this fall. Cerezo captained the team to the unbeaten season and a MEC regular season Championship.
Estrada, an Ellicott City, Maryland native has helped spearhead a defense that is tied for first nationally in shutouts with 13. Estrada has scored seven goal this season as well this season; the most by any defender in the MEC.
Johnson was voted by his peers as MEC Coach of the Year for the first time, in his first full season as he guided the Senators to the unbeaten regular season. The Senators are one of just two teams remaining without a loss in Division II. Johnson ensured D&E pick up the regular season MEC Championship.
Others joining Cerezo and Estrada on the All-MEC team were
Jeremy Coste,
Gianluca Fiorini,
David Jara and
Haruki Yamazaki. This is the second consecutive First Team honor for Fiorini and Jara and the first for newcomer Yamazaki. Coste picked up second team honors in the spring.
Martin Lago, Davide Materrazi and
Dominique Castano wrapped up the awards for the Senators this year. Lago picked up All-MEC Second Team honors while Materrazi was awarded Honorable Mention All-MEC and Castano All-Freshman Team.
