RAVENSWOOD, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins men brought home first place this weekend at the Shriners Hospital Invite, hosted by Ohio Valley University. The Senator women finished fourth overall.
D&E's men finished at the top of the leaderboard after Round 1 after shooting a team total of 288 and did not give up the lead in the second round, shooting a team total of 291. The Senators finished with a total of 579, which was 9 strokes better than the second-place finisher, Bluefield State College.
Jordan Hyland posted the individual low round on the Senators squad this weekend, shooting 3-under on day 1, finishing even for the tournament after posting a 3-over on day 2.
Jack Coleman had the individual weekend best for the Senators and second overall for the tournament, finishing the tournament at -2. Coleman posted a 70 in the opening round, followed by an even par round to close it out.
Sean Addie put together a solid and consistent outing for D&E. Addie finished the weekend with a total score of 146. On Day 2 he posted 3 birdies and 13 pars.
Evan Lewis and
Matin Eisa also contributed to the Senators win.
For the women, Davis & Elkins was in third place after Round 1, shooting a team score of 352. Unfortunately, after posting a better team score of 349 in round two, the Senators fell to fourth in the standings. Marietta College, who was in fourth behind D&E after day one, rallied and shot a team score of 343 on Day 2 to claim third place by one stroke. Southern Indiana set the pace all weekend shooting a team 655 over the two days and would have the best scores over both rounds.
Individually for D&E,
Lucrezia Speranza was very consistent over the two days posting an 84 and 85 and finishing tied for 11
th.
Kaitlin Dixon also finished tied for 11
th. Dixon shot an 89 in Round 1 and finished her weekend strong with a third-best individually across all golfers in Round 2 shooting an 80.
Dorothy Romanek finished in 17
th place with an 83 and 89 in the two rounds. The two other Senators to hit the links this weekend for the women's team were
Krista Davis, 96 & 95, and
Madelyn St. Mary, 103 & 97.
The tournament raised over $6,000 for the Shriner's Hospital for Children.
