HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – Davis & Elkins capped its first Mountain East Conference (MEC) Indoor Track Championships on Saturday at the Chris Cline Indoor Complex and posted no shortage of impressive performances.
Four individual conference championships highlighted the two-day meet, with
Natalia Hidalgo Martinez posting a win in the 5000m on Friday in 18:22.70.
D&E added three more wins on Saturday, with
Roxine Chambers contributing in two, beginning with a win in the 400-meter dash in a school record 58.02 before later joining the 4x400 meter relay team, along with
Samantha Kirk,
Roxanne McFarlin and
Jakeya Perrin for a 3:54 finish. Kirk was also among the Senators top finishers in the 400, posting sixth overall in 59.05.
Svea Timm continued her stellar season with a victory in the challenging 3,000-meter race, nabbing first in 10:29.59.
The men's distance medley relay team of
Scott Barker,
Nico Scarangello,
Tyler Greer and
Emeric Arnaud set a school record 10:28.24, good for third place on Friday.
Dalton Irvine nabbed a runner-up finish in a great 60-meter hurdles race with Jathan Daberry (UNC Pembroke), with both competitors securing an 8.20 in the finals.
On the women's side, the distance medley relay team of Timm, Kirk,
Anya Miller and Martinez were runner-up finishers on Friday after a protest in the result. For the men,
Benjamin Banda showed tremendous improvement in his brief time at D&E during the indoor season, running to all-conference honors in the 400-meter dash with a school record time of 49.7.
Arnaud was sixth in the mile (4:22), with Miller and
Skylee Watson earning fourth and eighth in the mile, respectively, in 5:22.0 and 5:40.11. Barker added a ninth-place finish in the mile (4:24.36) and was 12th in the 3,000 (8:51.09), a vast improvement from his seeded time.
Miller added a school record finish in the 800, posting a 2:25.61, good for fourth overall. The men's 4x400-meter relay team added a school record of its own in 4:25.92, featuring the quartet of Banda,
Timothy Campbell-Fowler,
Chris Berman and Scarangello.
Dymere Jones earned fourth in the heptathlon with a combined score of 3824.
Aidan Konhaus posted a pair of top-10 finishes in distance events, going ninth in the 3000 (8:46.64) and 10th in the 5000 (15:17.41).
Kloe Littleman was also a top-10 finisher in the 3000, notching ninth in 11:07.75.
The weekend marked the final indoor event of the season for the Senators as head coach
Jason Pyles and the team will transition to the outdoor portion of the season. The team's first outdoor competition is set for March 20-21 at Washington and Lee.
