Box Score 2 MELBOURNE, Fla. — The Davis & Elkins softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader Tuesday at the Space Coast Spring Games, falling 10-2 to Mary in game one before suffering an 8-0 loss to Saginaw Valley State in game two at the Space Coast Complex.
GAME ONE: Mary 10, Davis & Elkins 2
Mary jumped out to an early lead and used a seven-run fifth inning to secure a 10-2 victory over the Senators.
The Marauders scored twice in the opening inning, capitalizing on a Davis & Elkins error before adding another run in the second to take a 3-0 advantage.
The Senators answered in the third inning when Ashlyn Zapach doubled to left center to bring home Trinity Fleming and cut the deficit to 3-1. Davis & Elkins pulled within one in the fourth as Alyssia Munoz delivered an RBI single to center field that scored Gweny Wessling.
Mary responded in the fifth inning with a decisive rally, scoring seven runs on four hits and taking advantage of a pair of defensive miscues to extend the lead to 10-2.
Zapach led the Senators at the plate with two hits, including the RBI double, while Wessling and Munoz each added a hit and an RBI.
Munoz took the loss in the circle for Davis & Elkins after pitching four innings and striking out three.
GAME TWO: Saginaw Valley State 8, Davis & Elkins 0
Saginaw Valley State used steady offense and a complete-game pitching performance from Grace Schloop to defeat the Senators 8-0 in the second game of the day.
The Cardinals scored twice in the first inning on a pair of RBI singles before adding a run in the fifth to extend the lead to 3-0. Saginaw Valley State broke the game open with two runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh.
Davis & Elkins was limited to three hits in the contest, with Alyssa Haynes, Trinity Fleming and Ashlyn Zapach each recording a hit.
Sammie Jarvis started in the circle for the Senators and struck out nine batters across 5.1 innings before Alyssia Munoz worked the final 1.2 innings in relief.
