Box Score 2 FROSTBURG, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins College baseball team dropped both games of a Mountain East Conference doubleheader to Frostburg State on Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Field.
The Senators fell 9-2 in game one before Frostburg State claimed an 8-2 win in the second game.
Game One: Frostburg State 9, Davis & Elkins 2
Frostburg State jumped out to an early lead, scoring in the first inning on a Jake Holler groundout that drove in Brian Scott. The Bobcats added a pair of runs in the third and two more in the fourth, including a sacrifice fly from Jackson Schalick and a Holler flyout, pushing the lead to 4-0.
Davis & Elkins got on the board in the sixth inning. Grant Mealey walked, and Kenny Capria scored on the play. Nick Colarossi reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Zach Calef-Boring to score. Capria and Calef-Boring each finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate. Frostburg State responded with a four-run sixth highlighted by a CJ Carmichael single, a Drew Jourdan run on a wild pitch, and a two-RBI single by Sam Atkinson.
Hunter Layhew earned the win for Frostburg State, improving to 4-1, while Joel Wise took the loss for D&E, falling to 0-1.
Game Two: Frostburg State 8, Davis & Elkins 2
The Bobcats struck early again, with Jackson Schalick blasting a two-run homer in the first inning to give Frostburg State a 2-0 advantage. Davis & Elkins got a run in the fourth when Connor Hyde's groundout scored Nick Colarossi, but Frostburg State quickly answered with an unearned run after a D&E error.
Frostburg State extended the lead with a two-run fifth inning and added three more in the sixth, including runs scored on two Davis & Elkins errors. The Senators scored once more in the seventh on an unearned run from Hyde, but the deficit was too large to overcome.
Bryce Bauer earned the win for Frostburg State, while Kyle Ball took the loss for D&E. Colarossi and Calef-Boring led the Senators at the plate with a hit each, while Capria added two hits in the game.
Davis & Elkins returns to action Friday, April 3, for a Mountain East Conference doubleheader at Harpertown Field against Concord University. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
