HUNTINGTON, W. Va. — Davis & Elkins men's and women's indoor track and field concluded the indoor season with a strong showing at the Mountain East Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 21–22.
The women finished sixth overall in the team standings with 66 points in an 11-team field. Charleston (W.Va.) claimed the team title with 140 points, followed by Point Park (Pa.) with 114 and West Liberty with 82.
The Senators were highlighted by multiple conference titles and record-setting performances.
Lauren Twyman captured the MEC championship in the mile, breaking the meet record with a time of 4:58.52. The senior's performance ranks No. 79 nationally in Division II this season. Twyman also placed third in the 800 meters (2:18.97) and sixth in the 3,000 meters (10:19.64), contributing key points across three events.
Savanna Hardman won the MEC title in the 3,000 meters with a meet-record time of 9:50.27. Hardman also ran a leg on the women's distance medley relay team that captured the conference championship in 12:02.43, a meet record and Division II No. 24 mark nationally.
The DMR squad of Hardman, Cameryn Wheeler, Jeanne Pelissier, and Twyman combined for the gold-medal performance. Pelissier added a fourth-place finish in the 3,000 meters (10:16.11) and a personal-best third-place finish in the mile (5:09.27). Sierra Taylor recorded a third-place finish in the mile in a personal-best 5:06.75.
Rebecca Tellez placed fifth in the 3,000 meters with a personal-best 10:18.92 and third in the 5,000 meters in 17:46.96. Zoe Belshan recorded a season-best 10:28.29 in the 3,000 meters and finished eighth in the 5,000 meters in a season-best 18:21.37. Brooke Jacobs posted a season-best 10:42.68 in the 3,000 meters and ran 18:51.44 in the 5,000 meters. Taytum Walls finished 13th in the 800 meters (2:26.15), while Wheeler placed 14th in the mile (5:23.29). The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Sierra Taylor, Quinn Hazelett, Walls, and Wheeler placed ninth in 4:21.16.
On the men's side, Davis & Elkins placed eighth overall with 45 team points. Charleston (W.Va.) won the men's team championship with 177 points, followed by Point Park (83) and Frostburg State (79).
Jordan Thomas led the Senators with a runner-up finish in the 5,000 meters in 14:39.54 and a fourth-place finish in the 3,000 meters (8:42.48). The men's distance medley relay team of Slate Swiger, Tommy Bildheiser, Fletcher Van Heuven, and Cooper Gibson placed second in 10:10.11, which ranks No. 30 nationally in Division II.
Freshman Fletcher Van Heuven won the MEC title in the 800 meters in 1:55.79, while Tommy Bildheiser finished second in a season-best 1:55.80. Swiger placed fourth in the mile with a season-best 4:15.33. Gibson finished eighth in the mile (4:23.14) and also competed in the 3,000 meters (9:00.33). Jack Waggy recorded a personal-best 4:24.96 in the mile and placed 10th in the 3,000 meters (8:55.61). Andrew Stein posted a personal-best 4:27.71 in the mile. Max Wildbore competed in the 800 meters (2:04.40) and ran on the 4x400 relay. Andrew Bowen finished 14th in the 5,000 meters (15:53.36), and Konnor Allison recorded a DNF in the event.
Ian Wood competed in the heptathlon and individual events throughout the weekend. He ran 7.34 in the 60 meters, 8.57 in the 60-meter hurdles prelims, and 9.41 in the heptathlon 60-meter hurdles. Wood cleared 1.74 meters in the high jump and recorded a personal-best 8.34 meters in the shot put.
The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Bildheiser, Van Heuven, Swiger, and Wildbore placed ninth in 3:33.71.
With the MEC Championships concluding the indoor campaign, Davis & Elkins will open the outdoor season at the Marty Pushkin Invitational on March 21 at West Virginia University in Morgantown, W. Va.
