Box Score 2 OWENSBORO, Ky. — The Davis & Elkins College baseball team dropped a pair of games to Kentucky Wesleyan College on Friday and Saturday in nonconference action.
Game One: Kentucky Wesleyan 20, Davis & Elkins 4
Davis & Elkins jumped out to an early lead in the opening game on Friday in Owensboro, Kentucky, as Kenny Capria scored on a first-inning sequence to give the Senators a 1-0 advantage.
Kentucky Wesleyan answered quickly and broke the game open with a 13-run third inning. The Panthers added four more runs in the fifth to extend the margin.
The Senators responded with three unearned runs in the sixth inning. Kyle Thomas, Nate Silvus and Dylan Leadbetter each crossed the plate during the rally.
Capria, Zach Calef-Boring, Joel Wise, Silvus and Leadbetter each recorded a hit for Davis & Elkins. Calef-Boring also added a stolen base.
Kenny Capria got the start for Davis & Elkins in game one. Cade Walters, Bryce Hines and Charley Plummer followed in relief, with Carson Gorby closing out the game with two scoreless innings.
Game Two: Kentucky Wesleyan 12, Davis & Elkins 11
Saturday's contest at Apollo High School featured a back-and-forth battle that was decided in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Davis & Elkins struck first with three runs in the opening frame. Grant Mealey, Xavier Perry and Nate Silvus each delivered RBI singles to give the Senators an early 3-0 lead.
Kentucky Wesleyan answered with home runs in the first and second innings to take a 5-3 advantage. The Senators responded with solo home runs from Capria in the fifth and Silvus in the sixth to tie the game at 5-5.
Tyler Mendoza put Davis & Elkins back in front with an RBI single in the seventh, but the Panthers regained the lead later in the inning.
The Senators mounted a five-run rally in the eighth inning, highlighted by RBI singles from Calef-Boring and Mealey and a two-run error, to take an 11-10 lead.
Kentucky Wesleyan tied the game in the bottom of the eighth and then walked it off in the ninth with an RBI double.
Capria finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a home run. Mealey went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, while Silvus drove in four runs and added a homer. Calef-Boring collected two hits and an RBI, and Leadbetter added a hit and a run.
Kyle Ball started the second game and worked six innings for the Senators. Dallas Rasmussen and Carson Gorby pitched in relief before Andy Bailer finished the game.
