Box Score 2 JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — The Davis & Elkins College softball team split a pair of games Monday at the Winged Deer Complex, falling to Carson-Newman before earning its first win of the season against Tusculum.
Game One: Carson-Newman 5, Davis & Elkins 1
Davis & Elkins opened the day with a competitive effort but fell 5-1 to Carson-Newman in the opener.
The Eagles scored single runs in the second and third innings to take an early 2-0 lead. The Senators answered in the fourth when Meg Henkle singled to center field to drive in Cortney Dobbs, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
Carson-Newman pulled away in the sixth inning with three runs, highlighted by RBI singles from Addie Saunders and Malyiah Smith and a sacrifice fly from Abbi Martin.
Alyssa Haynes and Ashlyn Zapach paced the D&E offense with two hits apiece, with Zapach adding a double. Dobbs reached base twice and scored the Senators' lone run.
Saylor Kneeland went the distance in the circle, allowing five runs on seven hits.
Game Two: Davis & Elkins 4, Tusculum 3 (8 innings)
The Senators rallied in extra innings to secure a 4-3 victory over Tusculum in the nightcap, earning their first win of the 2026 season.
Davis & Elkins took advantage of Tusculum errors to score in both the first and second innings and build a 2-0 lead. The Pioneers responded with runs in the second and third innings to even the score at 2-2.
Cortney Dobbs gave D&E a 3-2 advantage in the fourth inning by stealing third base and scoring on the throw. Tusculum tied the game in the sixth on a sacrifice fly.
After a scoreless seventh inning, the Senators pushed across the winning run in the eighth when Alyssa Haynes drew a bases-loaded walk to force in Meg Henkle.
Haynes finished 1-for-4 with an RBI and a walk, while Madison Smith added a hit and scored a run. Dobbs scored once and stole two bases.
Sammie Jarvis earned the complete-game win, tossing eight innings and allowing three runs on eight hits.
