Box Score EMORY, Va. — Emory & Henry scored five goals in the final seven minutes to pull away from Davis & Elkins and secure an 11-7 victory Sunday afternoon at the Food City Complex in the Senators' season opener.
The Senators led early and were tied late in the fourth quarter before the Wasps used a late scoring surge to open the 2026 season with a win.
Devon Garcia paced the Senators with four goals, recording a hat trick by halftime and adding his fourth in the final period. Xzavier Jankowiak, Karsen Kronen and JayC Morlog each added a goal, while Nate Duffy recorded an assist.
Davis & Elkins opened the scoring when Garcia found the net at the 1:56 mark of the first quarter. Jankowiak extended the lead early in the second, and Garcia added another late in the half to give the Senators a 3-2 advantage at the break.
Emory & Henry tied the game in the third quarter and took its first lead late in the period. The Wasps carried a 4-3 edge into the fourth before D&E rallied with three unanswered goals from Kronen, Morlog and Garcia to knot the score at 6-6 with 8:02 remaining.
The Wasps responded with five goals over the final seven minutes to seal the victory.
Garcia finished with four goals on 11 shots, while Kronen added 10 shots and three shots on goal. Jankowiak tallied one goal and three ground balls.
Goalkeeper Avery Linthicum made 18 saves for the Senators in the loss.
Emory & Henry was led by Gavin Starling and Jacob Mills, who each scored three goals. Dany Nguyen added two goals and two assists, while David Mewes finished with two goals.
The Wasps held a 44-38 edge in shots and won 16 of 21 faceoffs.
Davis & Elkins will return to action Thursday, Feb. 12, when the Senators travel to Virginia State University for a 3 p.m. contest in Petersburg, Va.
