ELKINS, W. Va. — Davis & Elkins indoor track and field competed at the YSU Collegiate Invitational on Friday, Jan. 16, highlighted by multiple NCAA Division II marks, personal records and podium finishes.
Senior Cooper Gibson led the way for the Senators with a first-place finish in the men's 3,000 meters, posting a time of 8:39.52 to rank No. 44 nationally in Division II. Jordan Thomas followed closely behind in second at 8:39.82, while Konnor Allison (fourth, 8:46.77) and Slate Swiger (fifth, 8:46.86) also recorded new Division II marks.
In the women's 3,000 meters, Savanna Hardman earned the top spot with a winning time of 10:04.75, good for a new Division II No. 25 mark. Rebecca Tellez finished fifth in 10:32.59, while Zoe Belshan placed seventh (10:48.31) and Brooke Jacobs finished eighth (10:52.44).
The men's mile featured a strong showing from freshman Fletcher Van Heuven, who placed fifth with a personal-record time of 4:19.92, ranking No. 39 in Division II. Tommy Bildheiser finished 19th (4:25.98), Jack Waggy placed 23rd (4:28.91), Andrew Stein finished 25th with a personal record (4:30.04), Paul Langkopf placed 40th (4:37.35) and Landon Sweitzer recorded a personal best in 41st (4:38.89).
On the women's side, Lauren Twyman placed fifth in the mile with a time of 5:05.60, ranking No. 12 nationally. Freshman Jeanne Pelissier ran a personal-record 5:14.49 to finish eighth and rank No. 34, while Cameryn Wheeler (10th, 5:19.61) and Sierra Taylor (13th, 5:23.93) both recorded season-best times.
Ian Wood competed in multiple events for the Senators, clocking an 8.69 in the men's 60-meter hurdles prelims and setting a personal record in the 200 meters at 23.83. Wood also competed in the high jump but did not record a height.
Additional performances included Taytum Walls in the women's 400 meters (21st, 1:05.56) and Quinn Hazelett in the women's 800 meters (13th, 2:30.83).
Davis & Elkins returns to action Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Bridgewater College Invitational in Bridgewater, Va.
