Harris Announces Addition of Jamal Edmonson to Men’s Basketball Staff

ELKINS, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins College head men's basketball coach Daniel Harris has announced the hiring of Jamal Edmonson as an assistant coach for the Senators program.

Edmonson arrives in Elkins after spending the past two seasons at Charleston Southern University, where he served as a graduate assistant while also working as the program's director of basketball operations assistant. During his time with the Buccaneers, he helped coordinate team meals, assisted with travel arrangements and played a role in identifying and evaluating prospective student-athletes.

"Really excited to welcome Jamal to our family," Harris said. "In the short time I've had the opportunity to get to know him, it's clear that he is going to make a tremendous impact on our program. Jamal brings a wealth of knowledge from his playing days and experience from coaching at the Division I level, along with the passion, energy and championship mindset that are essential for success. Our program just got better, and I'm excited to work alongside him as we continue building something special."

Edmonson earned his master's degree in physical education and coaching from Charleston Southern in May 2026. He previously received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Southern Wesleyan University in 2024 after earning an associate degree in kinesiology from Mt. San Antonio College in 2022.

A former standout player, Edmonson was a team captain at Southern Wesleyan and also competed at Mt. San Antonio College and Francis Marion University. Prior to his collegiate career, he starred at Ashley Ridge High School, where he was a two-time Region Player of the Year, a four-time all-state selection and South Carolina's State Player of the Year in 2015. He finished his prep career with more than 3,000 points and remains among the state's all-time leading scorers.

Edmonson has also gained coaching experience at the high school level, working with Daniel High School and Nike Elite High School Camp. He helped guide an eighth-grade team to a camp championship and was recognized as the camp's outstanding counselor.

At Charleston Southern, Edmonson worked alongside Big South Player of the Year Taje' Kelly and All-Big South First Team selection Alahn Sumler. He was also part of a program that finished among the top teams in South Carolina.
