INDIANAPOLIS – The Davis & Elkins College men's tennis team made history Monday, earning the program's first-ever berth to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Championships.
The Senators (9-7) were selected as the No. 5 seed and will face No. 4 West Virginia Wesleyan (12-6) on Friday, May 9 at 12 p.m. at the Schoenbaum Tennis Courts in Charleston, West Virginia. The winner will advance to face top-seeded Charleston (20-3) on Saturday, May 10 with a trip to the NCAA Championships on the line.
Each of the 16 regional winners from across the country will move on to the NCAA Division II National Championships, held May 20-24 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida. Rollins College and the Greater Orlando Sports Commission will serve as hosts.
Davis & Elkins joins a strong Atlantic Region field that also includes Edinboro (11-4), Fairmont State (10-6), Shaw (7-4), and Bloomsburg (11-3). Charleston and Edinboro earned automatic bids after capturing their respective conference titles.
The full 48-team national field was revealed during the NCAA.com selection show on Monday, May 5.
This milestone appearance caps a historic season for the Senators, who continued to climb the regional rankings and secured key victories earlier in the season.
