WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Davis & Elkins College track & field team turned in a historic weekend at the prestigious Colonial Relays, highlighted by five school records and a program-first event champion.
Junior Lauren Twyman headlined the women's performances with a school record in the 1500-meter run, clocking a time of 4:34.22 to win her section and finish third overall across all heats. Her time stands as the fastest 1500 in both the Mountain East Conference and Atlantic Region this season, and she was the top non-Division I finisher in the event.
On the men's side, Jackson Gibson, a fifth-year senior, shattered the program record in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:50.43, placing third in his section and seventh overall. Gibson now holds the top mark in the MEC and region, and his performance was the best among all Division II runners at the meet. Sophomore Slate Swiger followed closely behind with a 3:51.02, which also surpassed the previous school record.
In the men's 5000-meter invite, Carter McKenna ran 14:19.90 to claim third overall and break the school record, while Ryan Rasco added a strong performance in the 800-meter invite, finishing eighth in 1:53.31 — the second-fastest time in program history behind his own record.
The Senators' distance group continued to shine as Jordan Thomas claimed the program's first-ever Colonial Relays event title, winning the men's 10,000 meters in 30:40.24.
On the women's side, senior Ella Hesson broke the school record in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:21.30, placing ninth overall. Junior Savanna Hardman shattered the women's 5000-meter record with a time of 17:20.88, placing 11th in the invite section, while freshman Lydia Falkenstein ran 17:32.09, the third-fastest mark in program history.
