BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Four standout members of the Davis & Elkins College softball team have been recognized by the Mountain East Conference with All-Conference honors this afternoon (April 29), highlighted by senior first baseman Linzey Allard, who was named MEC Player of the Year and earned a spot on the All-MEC First Team.
Allard, one of the nation's top hitters and a member of the NFCA National Player of the Year Watchlist, posted a .403 batting average and 1.222 OPS across 45 games before a season-ending injury. Despite the shortened season, she launched 13 home runs, drove in 42 runs, and tallied 112 total bases. Her .752 slugging percentage led the team, and she also added eight stolen bases in 10 attempts.
Joining Allard on the All-MEC First Team were junior Ashlyn Zapach and senior Lina Gutierrez, both of whom played crucial roles in the Senators' success this spring.
Zapach, who split time as designated player and first baseman, led the team with a .420 batting average and drove in 49 runs, ranking among the league's top producers. She finished the season with 68 hits, 17 doubles, and seven home runs, compiling a 1.109 OPS in 50 games played.
Gutierrez anchored the outfield from center field and was a dynamic force at the plate and on the bases. She batted .389 with a team-high 74 hits and 15 stolen bases. Her seven triples also highlighted her ability to flip momentum and create scoring opportunities.
In the circle, sophomore right-hander Sammie Jarvis earned All-MEC Second Team honors following a breakout season as the Senators' ace. Jarvis appeared in 32 games with 22 starts, throwing 134.0 innings and compiling a 12-11 record. She recorded 108 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .241 batting average, finishing the year with a 3.97 ERA and five complete-game shutouts.
The Mountain East Conference honors reflect a season of excellence and resilience for D&E, with each of the all-conference selections playing a pivotal role in the Senators' postseason push.
The Senators - the No. 3 South seed - open up postseason play at the MEC Softball Championship tournament on Wednesday, April 30 at 2:30 p.m. when they will face the No. 2 North seed West Liberty at the Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia. Game two follows on Thursday afternoon with opponent and time to be determined.
