Men's Tennis Ranks Fourth In MEC Preseason Poll

ELKINS, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College men's tennis team has been ranked fourth in the 2025 Mountain East Conference (MEC) Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

The Senators earned 19 points in the poll, placing them just behind West Virginia Wesleyan (27). Reigning conference champion Charleston claimed the top spot with six first-place votes and 36 total points, while Fairmont State (30) and Wesleyan rounded out the top three.

D&E is led by a strong senior duo in Anthony Martins and Viktor Yanev, with Yanev making program history this past fall season. The senior sports management major from Sofia, Bulgaria, became the first player in Davis & Elkins history to earn a national ranking, currently sitting at No. 47 in the ITA Division II Men's Singles Rankings. He also holds the No. 3 spot in the Atlantic Regional Rankings, the highest individual ranking in program history. Yanev put together an impressive 9-1 singles record this fall across two tournaments and two dual matches, solidifying his status as one of the top competitors in the region.

Alongside Martins and Yanev, the Senators boast a balanced mix of established talent and young potential, with Justus Petersilie, Santiago Ordonez, and Duarte Correia all expected to play key roles this season.
